Your Weekly Surf Outlook - 2nd Oct 2026.
Happy Friday!
We've got a real mixed bag of conditions coming for us this week – some crazy days, some clean, some huge, and some reasonably sized haha.
The biggest thank you to all our surfers and donors who helped support us raising funds for the Make A Wave Challenge over September for SurfAid! We clocked over 480 sessions as a team and raised $6,612 to help the work that SurfAid do in providing clean water, sustainable food systems, and healthcare in remote surfing communities in Indo and the Solomon Islands. And we came second is the surf school showdown nationally again! This time beaten by Dee Why Salty Surf School. We’ll regroup and hit it harder next year to see what we can achieve as a community (and beat Sydney)!
ADDED WARNING:
A quick note to let you know that the Great Ocean Road Coast and Parks Authority has just issued an advisory that they will be conducting an emergency opening of the Anglesea River this morning into Anglesea Beach to prevent flooding and house damage for the properties bordering the riverbanks. Due to water contamination, it may be worth avoiding Anglesea Beach for 24-48 hours after the last rain subsides. We do have big SE swells forecast across tomorrow, so it's likely that Point Roadknight will also be impacted, with potential for Guvvos and Urqs to also be a bit lower quality in terms of visibility and water quality than usual (though they should clean out quicker than Roady or Anglesea still).
Lorne residents yesterday were raising concerns about the river level down there too, with water just starting to breach the edges near the bridge late last night. Basically, if you're along the Great Ocean Road today, be mindful of potential flooding and keep an eye on water levels as you go, and reconsider surfing near the river outlets (for Ocean Grove too) as there'll be a lot of waste flushing through at the moment.
We loved taking on such a full on September with you all and can’t wait to cruise back into a less hectic schedule in the water across October!
Here’s a rough guide to what we’re expecting over the next week:
Saturday: Very windy with huge SE swells coming in – we’re expecting washing machine conditions across the coast. Be careful of your rips on the west side of beaches as they’ll be churning (inside corner at Addis, Torquay, and Urqs for example).
Swell – We have two large cross swells forecast, one from the SE and one from the SW that will be running into each other and creating a mess. Expect washing machine like conditions with sideways waves, shifting peaks, and sandbanks swirling and changing under your feet as you walk. We’re expecting 5-6ft but weird shaped (wrong angle) at Roady, Fishos, Whites, Addis, Cosy, Torquay, Ocean Grove, and Urquharts Bluff, and 6-7ft at Juc, 13th, Guvvos, Bells, Winki, and Southside. It’s unusual for a SE swell to come in so big, so we’ve tempered our predictions a bit from what is there, but there if the forecast is fully accurate, in theory there’s possibility for an extra 2ft across all beaches in the morning. We’re sceptical that it would come through that big though.
Wind – Onshore all day and moderate with strong gusts. Nowhere to hide from it unless you get down past Lorne (Wye River specifically).
Tide – Mid to high tide spots only today really. Low of 0.8m at 9:41am and a high of 2.1m at 3:39pm.
Sunday: Still a little chop about but clean faces to be found with some patience.
Swell – We have our primary SW swell taking the lead and are seeing the SE secondary dying off completely across the day. We’ll likely see some lumps and bumps in the water in the morning, with the peaks shifting around slightly, but overall, it should clean up pretty nicely. We’re expecting 1-2ft at Addis and Cosy, 2-3ft at Torq, OG, and Urqs, 3-4ft at Juc and 13th, 4-5ft at Guvs, and 5-6ft at Bells, Winki, and Southside. We’re expecting to gain an extra foot in size from around midday with Fishos and Whites getting going with ½-1ft peelers across the afternoon and evening.
Wind – Onshore all day but mild to gentle moderate. Calmest first thing in the morning but only peaking at 15km/h at 6pm, so definitely not a deal breaker. Worth a paddle at any time of day.
Tide – Still mid to high tide locations only. Low of 0.8m at 11:22am and high of 2.0m at 5:20pm.
Monday: Big and clean today.
Swell – We have a nice, solid single SW swell forecast for today with a long 15 sec period. We’re expecting 1-2ft at Whites, Fishos, and the beachy at Roady, 2-3ft at Addis and Cosy, 3-4ft at Torq, OG, and Urqs, 4-5ft at Juc, and 13th, 5-6ft at Guvs, and 6-7ft at Bells, Winki, and Southside. We’re losing a little size across the day, about 1ft across all beaches by 6pm.
Wind – Cross shore (W) to offshore all day but dead mild. Should be lovely.
Tide – Mellowing more – mid to high tide spots. Highs of 2.2m at 6:35am and 1.9m at 6:08pm, with a low of 0.9m at 12:07pm.
Tuesday: A lot of potential for today but one to watch as we get closer.
Swell – We have a big single SW swell forecast for today that is forecast to double in size from 6am to 6pm. The exact timing of when this bigger swell arrives will shift so keep an eye on the forecast as we get closer to the day. At the moment, in the morning we’re expecting clean 1-2ft at Addis and Cosy, 2-3ft at Torq, OG, and Urqs, 3-4ft at Juc and 13th, 4-5ft at Guvs, and 5-6ft at Bells, Winki, and Southside. By 6pm, we’re expecting 3-4ft at Whites and Fishos, (tide too high for Roady), 4-5ft at Addis (Cosy a closeout), 5-6ft at Torq and Urqs (OG a closeout), 8-10ft at Juc, and 13th, close to a closeout at Guvs, and 11-12ft at Bells, Winki, and Southside.
Wind – Offshore and mild very first thing in the morning. It’s picking up to moderate quite quickly across the morning, then swinging cross-onshore (WSW) and staying moderate speeds for the rest of the day. You can expect some chop and mess, though with those big, big waves in the arvo and evening, they’re likely to have too much size and force to be too bothered by the wind.
Tide – Mid to high locations only all day again. Highs of 2.0m at 7:29am and 1.9m at 7:08pm with a low of 0.9m at 12:59pm.
Wednesday: Potential for some big, clean waves all over today – fingers crossed the wind stays out of it.
Swell – We have our single SW swell with long 15 sec period continuing to hold up across our beaches today. We’re expecting 2-3ft at Whites and Fishos, (tide too high for Roady all day), 3-4ft at Addis and Cosy, 4-5ft at Torq, OG, and Urqs, 6-8ft at Juc, and 13th, 8-9ft at Guvs, and 9-10ft at Bells, Winki, and Southside. We may get the odd set with an extra foot in size right at sunrise, and you can expect more waves on the lower end of these spectrums by sunset.
Wind – Onshore all day, and mild across the morning before picking up to moderate across the afternoon and evening. Enough to be a touch annoying but not a deal breaker, especially with the bigger swell.
Tide – Not a lot of movement at all - high of 1.9m at 8:30am and a low of 1.0m at 2:04pm.
Thursday: Looking a touch messy and lumpy bumpy with a secondary swell coming into play.
Swell – We have two cross swells forecast for today – our primary SW swell and a much smaller SE secondary. While the SE shouldn’t be throwing up visible waves, it’ll likely put lumps and bumps in the wave faces and shift the peaks around, making the waves a bit less predictable. With patience and a little luck, you should be able to find plenty of clean (if unusually shaped) faces to play in still. The swell is dropping off across the day, so we’re expecting to lose 1-2ft across all beaches by 6pm.
Wind – Offshore most of the day and pretty mild. It picks up the tiniest bit from around 3pm, but if anything, it should make conditions a touch nicer and cleaner.
Tide – Very mellow – high of 1.8m at 9:40am and low of 1.0m at 3:25pm.
Friday: Currently looking relatively nice despite three swells in the forecast, but this could really go either way between now and next week.
Swell – We have three to four swells in the forecast, with one primary SW and then a few SE’s that are popping in and out. At this stage, all the secondary swells are so small that we’d doubt that you would notice them at all, which should leave us with relatively clean conditions. We’re expecting 1-2ft at Addis and Cosy, 2-3ft at Torq, OG, Anglesea, and Urqs, 3-4ft at Juc, 13th, and Guvs, and 4-5ft at Bells, Winki, and Southside.
Wind – Offshore all day and dead mild all morning. It’s picking up moderately across the afternoon, so expect steeper and pitchier waves then.
Tide – Still pretty mellow - high of 1.8m at 10:50am with a low of 0.9m at 4:51pm.
A note about the surf forecast: like all weather forecasts, the further away the prediction is, the more likely it is to change. Most forecasts are only vaguely accurate about four hours in advance, which is why we try and choose the locations for our surf lessons and events the night before to give us the best chance possible to have an accurate read on what will be happening out there. This forecast is to help give you an idea of where you might want to head but please check the forecast again the night before and morning of your planned surf to see if there have been any changes. Always please do a conditions check at the actual beach, because a forecast is still a forecast, and it can just be plain wrong.
If you’d like a daily email or text with detailed information on the forecast for next day (so as accurate as we can get it), you can sign up for our Tomorrow’s Forecast service via the button.
A note on wave size: we talk about the size of the waves in relation to the face or front - how big it would be if you are standing on your surfboard at the base of the wave face looking back at it. For reference, 1-2ft would be roughly knee to thigh (maybe waist) high waves.
That’s it for this week, legends! See you out in the water soon! 🌊✌️
As always, please don't hesitate to reach out if you have any questions!
