Your Weekly Surf Outlook - 14th Aug 2026.
Happy Friday! This week is kicking off strong with solid waves Saturday, and then we’re seeing the conditions drop off loads across most of the rest of the week for plenty of small, cruisey days.
Just a note that there’s been a bit of movement in the cliff between Winki and Bells, so they’ve created an exclusion zone around it. Respect signs and keep safe around those cliffs.
For all our Honu Honi Fam, we have a social surf followed by a lunch out at Pearl Torquay next Saturday 22nd if you want to join us for one or both! You can RSVP via our HH Fam Exclusive Events page using your password to log in.
Here’s a rough guide to what we’re expecting over the next week based on the current forecast:
Saturday: Lush, clean, big day! Get out there for sure!
Swell – Big single SW swell with long 14 sec period, so clean lines all day. 🤩 We’re expecting 1-2ft at Roady (low tides) and Fishos (high tide), 2-3ft at Addis and Cosy, 3-4ft Torquay, Ocean Grove, and Urquharts Bluff, 5-6ft at Juc, and 13th, 6-7ft at Guvvos, and 7-8ft at Bells, Winki, and Southside. First thing in the morning, expect the occasional set with an extra 1ft in size across all beaches.
Wind – Onshore all day and super mild. Should be lush at any time.
Tide – Nice healthy swing in the tide. Low of 0.5m at 6:55am and a high of 2.2m at 1:33pm. Watch out for those cliffs and sea walls with the high tide mark and bigger swell – we don’t think the swell is big enough to be a massive issue, but the water level will still be high enough.
Sunday: Another potentially lovely day with smaller waves, though there may be a little chop.
Swell – We mostly have a single SW swell that’s continuing to drop across the day. There is a tiny SE secondary on the forecast, but it’s not got a high probability of coming in. Without it, we should have another super clean day of waves, and with it, it’s so small that it would likely barely be noticeable, with occasional little lumps in the waves, and the peaks shifting a little, but still clean faces to play in. We’re expecting 1-2ft at Addis and Cosy, 2-3ft at OG, Urqs, and Torq, 3-4ft at Juc and 13th, 4-5ft at Guvvos, and 5-6ft at Bells, Winki, and Southside. Roady may just get going with ½-1ft peelers right at sunrise before the swell drops out a little more.
Wind – Cross-onshore (ESE) all day, but super mild again. It shouldn’t impact anything so long as it stays that gently.
Tide – Low of 0.5m at 7:43am and a high of 2.2m at 2:11pm. Nice even swing and opportunities for all our breaks to work on a tide that is best for them. 😊
Monday: Slightly unpredictable but clean faces to be found.
Swell – We have two swells coming in today – one from the SW and a smaller SE pushing through. You can expect the peaks to be shifting unpredictably, occasional side way waves, and weird shapes in the faces, but with some luck and patience, you should definitely be able to find some clean faces to play in. We’re expecting 1-2ft waves at Addis and Cosy, 2-3ft at OG, Urqs, and Torq, 3-4ft at Juc, 13th, and Guvvos, and 4-5ft at Bells, Winki, and Southside.
Wind – Cross-onshore (ESE) all day, and super mild again. It shouldn’t impact anything so long as it stays that gently.
Tide – Another healthy swing. Low of 0.5m at 8:25am and a high of 2.2m at 2:47pm.
Tuesday: Forecast is likely to change between now and then – keep an eye on it but it’s currently just looking unpredictable. Potentially decent enough, but uncertain.
Swell – We still have our two swells coming in today –the primary from the SW and a smaller SE pushing through. You can expect the peaks to be shifting unpredictably, occasional side way waves, and weird shapes in the faces, but with some clean faces to play in. We’re expecting 1-2ft waves at OG, Urqs, Anglesea, and Torq, 2-3ft at Juc, 13th, and Guvvos, and 3-4ft at Bells, Winki, and Southside. We may see the odd set that’s a foot bigger across all beaches across the morning and early afternoon.
Wind – Cross-offshore (NE) all day. Mild in the morning and then picking up moderately from midday. Certainly not a deal breaker but best in the morning if you can swing it.
Tide – Low of 0.6m at 9:04am and a high of 2.2m at 3:20pm.
Wednesday: Small and windy – we reckon you’ll be able to find a sneaky clean one here and there though.
Swell – We still have our two swells, SW primary and SE secondary. Our primary is losing nearly all its size today, and that secondary is pretty tiny. It may make some waves the tiniest bit lumpy or with a shifting peak, but we don’t think you’ll notice it much. First thing in the morning we’re expecting ½-1ft at Torq, OG, and Urqs, 1-2ft at Juc, 13th, and Guvvos, and 2-3ft at Bells, Winki, and Southside. It’s then due to drop off more, and through the arvo, we’re expecting it to drop to ½-1ft at Juc, 13th, and Guvs if we’re lucky, and 1-2ft at Bells, Winki, and Southside.
Wind – Moderate all day with stronger gusts. It’s offshore to cross-offshore (NNE) all day, and mildest at sunrise. The rest of the day, we can expect that it’ll be making our tiny waves a bit steeper and more pitchy. With such small swell, it highly increases the chances of dumping shore breaks rather than surfable waves. The wind is potentially edging towards dangerous territory around 3pm.
Tide – Our low is creeping higher – low of 0.7m at 9:40am and a high of 2.2m at 3:51pm.
Thursday: Small and lumpy bumpy. Waves to be found if you’re willing to grovel for them.
Swell – We have three itty bitty swells moving around – two from the SW and one from the SE. We can expect double ups, not much rest between sets, shifting peaks, and weird and unpredictable lumps in the wave faces. There will be clean ones to be found, but it’ll be a combo of patience and luck to grab them. We’re expecting ½-1ft at Juc, 13th, and Juc, and 1-2ft at Bells, Winki, and Southside. We can potentially see an extra foot in size from around 3pm onwards.
Wind – Pretty much cross-offshore (WNW) all day and mild. Not something that will negatively impact our waves.
Tide – We’re really losing our low and moving back towards needing to seek out mid to high tide locations only. Low of 0.8m at 10:14am and a high of 2.1m at 4:22pm.
Friday: Cleaning up and getting bigger, though double ups still likely today.
Swell – We have two SW swells coming in – a primary that’s growing and a secondary that’s much smaller so will contribute occasional double ups and chunky waves, but there’s definitely clean faces to be found. For most of the day we’re expecting 1-2ft at Cosy and Addis, 2-3ft at Torq, OG, and Urqs, 3-4ft at Juc, 13th, and Guvvos, and 4-5ft at Bells, Winki, and Southside. We’re expecting around 1ft less at all beaches first thing in the morning before the swell starts to push in.
Wind – Cross-offshore (NWN) all day and dead. Lovely day out there in regard to the wind.
Tide – No real low today, so mid to high tide locations only. Low of 0.9m at 10:49am and a high of 2.0m at 4:51pm.
A note about the surf forecast: like all weather forecasts, the further away the prediction is, the more likely it is to change. Most forecasts are only vaguely accurate about four hours in advance, which is why we try and choose the locations for our surf lessons and events the night before to give us the best chance possible to have an accurate read on what will be happening out there. This forecast is to help give you an idea of where you might want to head but please check the forecast again the night before and morning of your planned surf to see if there have been any changes. Always please do a conditions check at the actual beach, because a forecast is still a forecast, and it can just be plain wrong.
If you’d like a daily email or text with detailed information on the forecast for next day (so as accurate as we can get it), you can sign up for our Tomorrow’s Forecast service via the button.
A note on wave size: we talk about the size of the waves in relation to the face or front - how big it would be if you are standing on your surfboard at the base of the wave face looking back at it. For reference, 1-2ft would be roughly knee to thigh (maybe waist) high waves.
That’s it for this week, legends! See you out in the water soon! 🌊✌️
As always, please don't hesitate to reach out if you have any questions!
